Course ID : TK-2059

The DASD/RAID Fundamentals course provides students with a clear understanding of DASD concepts, components and functions, and the DASD role in an OS/390 environment. This helps the student to match the right device to a particular requirement and learn how DASD interfaces with OS/390. Also, the different levels of RAID are explained and how they are used in an OS/390 system.

Who Can Benefit

To succeed fully in this course, students should have a general knowledge of IBM systems and experience with MVS-z/OS operational issues.:

Skills Gained

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Identify storage subsystem components
  • Trace an I/O request through the storage subsystem
  • Address data directly on DASD
  • Identify available DASD types and controllers
  • Use device-support facilities (ICKDSF) to perform service functions such as volume initialization, locating defective tracks, and assigning alternate tracks
