Solaris 10 Differences from the Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 Operating Systems (CDLS-210-S10)

The Solaris 10 Differences from the Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 Operating Systems course provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the core system administration tasks that are described in the STS-276-S10 course on an x86 architecture. Additionally, it provides students with instruction about identifying authentication and security changes found in Solaris 10. This includes changes to password checking, features of least privilege, SCF, hardware acceleration for Internet Key Exchange (IKE), and IP filter firewall.


Who Can Benefit

Students who can benefit from this course are experienced UNIX system administrators and Solaris system administrators.

Prerequisites

To succeed fully in this course, students should be able to administer a UNIX operating system.:

Skills Gained

  • Install the Solaris operating system and administer software packages and patches
  • Administer user accounts, including configuration of Role-Based Access Control using the command line and the Solaris Management Console (SMC)
  • Demonstrate proficiency using the Solaris Volume Manager
  • Describe special file systems available in Solaris, and configure NFS and Autofs
  • Configure DNS and LDAP clients on Solaris systems
  • Implement NIS on Solaris systems
  • Identify changes to Password Checking and Kerberos
  • Identify features of Least Privilege for Solaris
  • Explain the Solaris OS Cryptograhpic Framework (SCF)
  • Understand the Hardware Accelerator for Internet Key Exchange
