Managing Performance Tools on Sun StorEdge 9990 and Sun StorEdge 9985 Systems (HDS-425)

This course provides information on how to install and use the performance management tools to monitor and tune disk subsystem resource utilization. The course is a combination of hands-on lab and formal lecture. Attendees are guided in the best use of technical resources and documentation. The interactive classroom environment facilitates increase hands-on knowledge.

  • The performance tools include three products:
    • Hitachi Performance Monitor software
    • Hitachi Volume Migration software
    • Hitachi Server Priority Manager software
  • The course will provide:
    • Basic performance metrics in relation to storage subsystem configuration
    • Setup and configuration requirements for the three individual products
    • Instructions for administration, operations, and handling
    • Hands-on exercises to practice usage of the three products

Students who can benefit from this course are Sun Service Engineers, Partners and customers who require experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining the Performance Tools on Sun StorEdge 9990 and 9985 Systems.

Prerequisites

  • Participants should have a background in data processing and understand RAID storage systems and their basic functions.
  • Participants should be familiar with the operating system and web browser software on the system hosting the Storage Navigator software.
  • Participants should be familiar with the Universal Storage Platform and/or Network Storage Controller.
  • Participants should be familiar and experienced with the LUN management activities for the Universal Storage Platform and/or Network Storage Controller systems.

Skills Gained

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the features and functions of the performance tools consisting of three software products
  • Describe the monitoring areas and the types of data required to analyze performance bottlenecks
  • Identify and describe the types of statistics made possible by using performance monitor
  • Analyze performance monitor data and determine possible steps to be taken to improve resource utilization or move data volumes
  • Explain and use the user interface to control the three products
