The Certification Prep Workshop: Sun Certified Solaris System Administrator 2 course provides students with a full review of the topics covered in the SA-299 course to help prepare them for the Solaris Certified System Administrator 2 exam, CX-310-015. The course details the testing objectives of the certification exam, along with corresponding material from the SA-299 Advanced System Administration for the Solaris 9 Operating System course using a series of overhead slides. In addition to the overhead slides, this course is accompanied by Darrell Ambro's Solaris 9 System Administrator Certification Exam Cram 2 book. The course is structured to meet the testing objectives of the certification exam, and does not correspond to the objectives of the additional book. The additional book merely serves as a reference guide to the Solaris 9 Operating System (Solaris OS) and highlights features that are new to the Solaris 9 OS. Students are encouraged to take the Sun Services ePractice exams before taking the actual Sun Certified System Administrator 2 exam. The ePractice exams are available at suned.sun.com. Select the Certification link to access the ePractice Exams. A set of 10 practice questions is available for free. A complete set of 180 practice questions is also available for an additional $75.00.

Course Content

Module 1 - Describing Network Basics

  • Explain how to configure, test, and use network interfaces
  • Explain the terminology, function, and configuration of the client-servermodel

Module 2 - Manage Virtual File Systems and Core Dumps

  • Explain when and how to add and remove swap space
  • Given either a crash dump or core file scenario, change the crash dump or core file configuration as appropriate
  • Identify the appropriate commands and procedures to manage files, list, start and stop daemons, and manage utilities on NFS servers and clients
  • Explain how to enable NFS server logging, and how to configure nfslogd behavior

Module 3 - Manage Storage Volumes

  • Explain the purpose, features, and functionalities of RAID, and identify the guidelines to follow when using RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 5, including hardwareconsiderations
  • Define key SVM concepts, including volumes and state databases

Module 4 - Control Access and Configure System Messaging

  • Explain how to display and set Access control Lists (ACLs) using the commandline and create default ACLs
  • Explain fundamental concepts of role-based access control (RBAC), including rights, roles, profiles, authorizations, administrator profile shells, RBACdatabases and explain how to build user accounts, rights, and profiles
  • Describe the fundamentals of the syslog function including the etc/syslog.conffile and the relationship between syslogd and m4 macro processor
  • Explain how to configure system messaging, including configuring the/etc/syslog.conf, modifying the inetd process and using the logger command

Module 5 - Set Up Naming Services

  • Describe naming service concepts, and explain how to use the naming serviceswitch file, the Name Service Cache Daemon (NSCD), and the getent command to getnaming service information
  • Given a description of a naming service client, identify the steps and commandsto configure the DNS client and set up the LDAP client
  • Explain the purpose, features, and functions of NIS namespace information, domains, and daemons
  • Explain how to build custom NIS maps

Module 6 - Perform Advanced Installation Procedures

  • Explain the purpose, features, and functionality of Jumpstart, including boot services, identification services, configuration services, and installationservices
  • Given a scenario, explain the procedures, scripts, and commands to implement a Jumpstart server
  • Given a scenario describing Jumpstart configuration alternatives, explain how to establish a boot-only server, identification service alternatives, configuration service alternatives, and installation service alternatives
